SUMMARY

Wesleyan doesn't provide bottled water in vending machines, dining establishments, or offices.

IMPACT

We've reduced bottled water usage on campus by tens of thousands of bottles annually.  No vending machines or Bon Appetit dining establishments now sell water.  In addtion, all office water coolers have been replaced with piped filtered water systems.

PROCEDURE

In 2012, the Wesleyan Student Assembly passed a resolution requesting the removal of bottled water from vending machines, dining establishments, and offices.  Subsequently, Wesleyan ceased the sale of bottled water in all university-controlled locations.

MISTAKES & LESSONS LEARNED

Athletics concessions, 3rd party dining establishments, and some offices continue to sell bottled water, because a formal ban was never issued.

FUTURE PLANS

We plan to issue a formal no bottled water policy and to target the remaining holdouts.
