Earthfest is an event celebrated on Earth Day hosted by the Georgia College Environmental Science Club. A wide range of activities including yoga, terrarium building, disc golf, drum circles, and a concert encourage students to enjoy the outdoors.
Student awareness of the Environmental Science Club and its impact increased. Also, students who are not members of the club were able to a timeout and enjoy the day of activities to be outdoors and enjoy our beautiful campus.
The Environmental Science Club met several times to plan the event activities and book the space. All members were encouraged to help set up and recruit friends to join in on the fun.
MISTAKES & LESSONS LEARNED
We learned to stick up for our event. Another campus group wanted to host an event that required a lot of energy because of inflatables they wanted to rent. Due to the environmentally conscience theme of the day, we worked with the campus events reserver to eliminate that event for the day. It was also important to plan for rain, so we had a large tent because of weather conditions in the past.
The large amount of campus involvement this year really supports this event continuing. Hopefully in the future we can take it to new heights by using alternative energy sources or creating a zero waste day.
